It's safe to say I'm more than obsessed with this skirt (also worn here). I've been pairing it with all kinds of tops and fall in love with each outfit more than the last. Everyone talks about how Whitney Eve's pieces are so versatile and I'm finally experiencing this firsthand.

I'm off to a meeting now but come back later this week because I've got some exciting news (+ giveaway) to share with you! Be sure to subscribe via e-mail (on the sidebar) or become a fan of SUMMERXSKIN on Facebook to get notified when there is a new post!

An Evening at Minling Pan Studio

|

Outfit Details: Pink Sequin Blazer (H&M), Boots (Vianni Collection), Crossbody Bag (Etienne Aigner), Black Top + Bodycon Skirt (Forever 21), Earrings (Butterfly Beads), Bracelet + Necklace (gift)

If you haven't been to Minling Pan Studio (also known as Shining Image) in Toronto yet, I highly recommend checking it out. Founded by Minling Pan, this boutique has everything you could ever want or need including clothes, jewelry, evening clutches, everyday handbags, as well as a unique selection of nail polishes!

I had the opportunity to visit the store last week when Valerie Stachurski of Charming Media invited me to an exclusive shopping party, where I tried really hard not to indulge in everything! I had to keep reminding myself that I'm still on a spending budget, but I will definitely be going back for items to add to my Spring wardrobe. (Who wants to go with meee?)

Minling is a professional colour, style and wardrobe consultant. While we were exploring the studio and shopping, she did personal one-on-one consultations with attendees and helped identify what sort of items and colours look good on them. Apparently I'm doing something right, because she said my pink blazer-cardi complemented my skin-tone perfectly. I was flattered!

Most of my evening was spent chit-chatting with other girls, munching on delicious fruits and veggies (with chocolate… YUM), and looking at beautiful statement necklaces and unique dresses.

Here are some photos from the evening:

Some of the items in the store to give you an idea of what Minling's style is like; those statement necklaces are to-die-for.

Here I am with Minling! She is adorable.

Hanging out with Valerie - thanks for organizing a lovely shopping event!

It's always great catching up with Nicole and Bianca.

Beauty bloggers Elaine and Stephanie were also present. (Love this photo!)

After non-stop tweeting with JJ Cowen for weeks, we finally got to meet.

Obligatory photo with Grace (so adorable) and my lovely date from the evening, Ria!

Again, I was really happy to see fruits and vegetables among other appetizers like macarons, wine and sparkling water.
By the way, did I mention there was a Photo Booth on-sight, handmade by Minling?!

So, this had to happen! Love.

For more photos, check out the full album here. If you don't live in or around Toronto, you can still browse Minling Pan Studio's online shop!

Kate Spade Yorkdale Launch Party

|

Tunic: Dynamite Necklace: H&M | Bracelet: Drama Queen by Flhair | Ring: Myles Sexton | Handbag: Kate Spade New York | Boots: Vianni Collection

Last week I had the pleasure of attending Kate Spade New York's Canadian launch party held at the Yorkdale location. Hosted by the lovely Marta Tryshak from WithLoveGabrielle.com, it was exactly how I pictured it to be: cute and colourful! I had a great time hanging out with the host, and shopping with some of Toronto's best fashion and beauty bloggers.

I've been on a spending budget for the month of January (thank you Tiffany Melia, ShesSoSavvy.ca!), so I had to be very careful with how much I spent at the event, but I did manage to take home a gorgeous bracelet that I couldn't resist!

I also took photos of the launch party throughout the night to share with you!

This is what the store looks like from the outside. This is the third time I've been here, it's smaller than I thought it would be.

Hanging out with Nicole (DaintyGirl.ca) and Marta (WithLoveGabrielle.com).

It isn't a shopping party without desserts! Cupcakes, macarons, and cookies were present at the event.

My healthier-self was really happy to see grapes and strawberries as well!

These three ladies work there and looked so stylish that evening. Love it!

"Is this seat taken? #handsomestranger". That bag is a must-have for sure.

Some more photos of what the Yorkdale store looks like. It was beautifully merchandised.

What Happened to the Snow?

|

(Photos by Maria)

Outfit Details: Sweater (Velvet), Pants (Mendocino), Handbag (Nella Bella), Boots (local boutique), Hat (H&M), Accessories (Forever 21)

Just a couple of weeks ago I was having fun making snowmen and planning snowboarding trips, but what happened? Looks like the snow didn't really want to say. I can't complain much because I'm looking at all the Spring arrivals and they are getting me so excited for warm weather!

I bought the sweater photographed above (as well as my Whitney Eve skirt from the last post) from HAUTELOOK. It's interesting that people are just finding out about this website now, because I've been shopping on it for YEARS and highly recommend it to all of my friends; so here I am recommending it to you. To begin, all you have to do is register here and you can also witness the glorious designer deals that occur there on the daily. Today I'm noticing Tory Burch clothing, handbags and shoes; the sale started yesterday so most of the items are sold out but you can get an idea of what I mean by AMAZING designer deals.

Check out this fun photo of the outfit - doesn't remind you of some of the ridiculous challenges that America's Next Top Model usually has? I love it though, I think it describes my energetic personality perfectly.

Happy Wednesday! Hope you are all having a wonderful week.

Winter Wonderland

|

(Photos by James)

Outfit Details: Patterned Skirt (Whitney Eve), Wool Sweater + Leggings (H&M), Necklace (Butterfly Beads), Handbag (Marc Jacobs), Combat Boots (Steve Madden)

I've come to a realization that if you are bundled up the right way, you won't hate winter as much. Of course I still prefer warm weather over all else, but having a wardrobe full of cozy mitts, scarves and wool socks really helps conquer the cold.

Plus, who says you can't look cute in a bulky sweater? In the outfit above I'm actually wearing a wool-blend sweater; it's so warm that I sometimes even break a sweat while working in the office. I'm still able to pair it with a beautiful patterned skirt and leggings and don't feel cold, as I usually top the outfit with matching winter accessories before stepping out the door.
January is looking great so far. I got a new Macbook Pro, which isn't the best thing for my wallet but much needed and deserved! I also caved and got a gym membership and have been eating fairly healthy with 1-2 cheat days a week. I have a few exciting projects that I'm currently working on and can't wait to share them with you here.

How is your January? Keep me posted!

Welcoming 2013

|

 (Photos by James)

Every year I host a Pre-New Years Bash at my house and invite a small group of close girlfriends. We usually have a potluck and do Secret Santa, exchanging gifts after enjoying a nice dinner. I started this tradition back in 2010 as a way to see them one last time before the year ended, but now it seems we also manage to spend New Years Eve together as well - which is amazing.

This was the third year and I decided to take charge and make it a little different with a Mexican feast. I was able to make this happen thanks to James, also known as The Guerrilla Gourmet, who gave up his entire Sunday to help me cook the meal while I prepared the smaller items, set up the table and did other things around the house.

In the midst of entertaining and eating I tried to get a few photos of the evening to share with you!

This is what the table looked like. For appetizers we had homemade tortilla chips and different kinds of dips including salsa, spicy avocado dip (almost like guacamole), and a layered 3-cheese, salsa and sour cream baked dip.

A photo of my lovely girlfriends right before we devoured everything.

You can see the burritos on the top right - we had many different kinds! If you're looking for a recipe, try this one. They are super filling and really yummy.

I prepared the Mexican rice from scratch.

This is what the homemade salsa looked like, it was sweet, tangy and delicious!

The avocado dip was sour and spicy... I practically ate this as my meal, it was so so good.

Another group photo right before everyone headed home.

I forgot to get photos of dessert, but I opted for apple crumble with vanilla ice cream, as we didn't have enough time to make churros.

I hope you all had an amazing holiday and have a fantastic year ahead of you. I'd love to know what your resolutions are for 2013!
