Whether you're wearing a lovely sun dress or t-shirt and jeans, making the extra effort of accessorizing your outfit can make a big difference. Lately I've been wearing jeans due to the inconsistent weather and random spurts of rain, but have still managed to make it my own style by adding some of my favourite accessories from this summer.

Fabulous Friday at Mysteriously Yours Dinner Theatre

|
What's a perfect way to spend Friday night? Why, at Mysteriously Yours Dinner Theatre of course!

While I really enjoy going to musicals, shows and concerts (anything live), I hardly make time for it. When Mysteriously Yours Dinner Theatre in Toronto asked me to join them last week for the interactive murder mystery "Uptown Abbey", I couldn't refuse! Fridays are usually my casual outfit days, but I decided to dress up a bit, purposely wearing red and black with a pleated skirt.

James (Mr. SxS :P) also looked really nice in business-casual attire. What do you think of his pose? We arrived in the Yonge/Eglinton area really early, so we decided to have drinks at a Mexican restaurant while we waited.

Around 6:30 p.m. we headed towards the venue (2026 Yonge Street, Toronto) and really liked the setup. You enter through a set of stairs going down and are immediately greeted by a host who guides you through the entire process.

Since it's an interactive show we had to wear name-tags throughout the night so that the actors could talk to us on a more personal level. They also had the dinner tables set up so that actors would sit with the audience, which I really liked!

Table setting included an itinerary, details and information about the show, as well as the menu for the 3-course meal. Mmmmm, boy, were we starving!

It was known that we attended as media and got these really cute hats! We took them off during the show but it was a nice touch. It also helped that actors and staff knew we were attending as media and specifically came up to us to introduce themselves and talk to us about what will be happening regarding the food and show. I even got some spoilers!

Dinner was served before the murder mystery began. This is an excellent idea since you don't really want to be distracted while eating and having light conversation. Trust me, everything was twice as delicious as it looked. While we worked on our dessert the actors began walking around us.

These are the only photos I was able to capture since everyone ran around a lot and moved from table to table really quickly. I loved how witty everyone was and the audience participation that night was EXCELLENT. The actors even had a system of getting people excited throughout the night.

I won't spoil anything for you regarding the show, Uptown Abbey, but I highly recommend it. We were very entertained and laughed the entire time. At one point I even wanted to cry, hehe. There is also a really big change or surprise that occurs, which I didn't realize till the VERY end (silly me).

Here is a group photo of the cast! We even saw a couple of them on the TTC after the show and got to hear more about how the shows and costumes are put-together, how the actors are selected and more. Get your Mysteriously Yours Dinner Theatre tickets now!

Leather and Fringe

Outfit Details: Top (Forever 21), Leggings (Aritzia), Bracelets + Ring (Butterfly Beads), Pumps (Aldo), Crossbody Bag (Poppie Jones)

It's the last few weeks of summer and while I don't want to jinx away the warm weather, it's always good to start planning a wardrobe for fall/winter early. The weather has been strange lately, it's either extremely hot or chilly throughout the day, so it inspired me to start bringing out my light sweaters and jackets, and also gave me an excuse to wear these leather leggings.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to cold mornings/evenings, layered clothing and LOTS of warm colours (olive, emerald and forest green + burgundy/maroon + navy).

LA LA LAND with MINKPINK

|
Fashion friends, have you ever wanted every single piece from a certain collection? That happened to me when I previewed MINKPINK's latest campaign, LA LA LAND.

The gorgeous Chloe Nørgaard is the face of this global campaign, and I think her fun and bohemianesque personality really shines through. I'm loving all of the mixed prints, colours and layering.

MINKPINK is an Australian fashion label that can occasionally be found in stores such as Aritzia and M for Mendocino, as well as local boutiques like Poor Little Rich Girl, Blossom Lounge and more. You can also shop the collection in various places online!

Last week I had the chance to check out some of MINKPINK pieces at the Toronto showroom, thanks to Lotus Leaf Communications!

I really liked the showroom setup! It was done so that you would be welcomed with dainty, feminine dresses and it would transition into more darker, edgy pieces. The former merchandiser in me couldn't help but take notice of how the colours and prints were separated and each story was put together.

While all of the clothing had their own personality, there were a few things that really stood out to me, and I think they'd be perfect for fall.

  • ONE: A tunic that would go well with leather leggings and moto boots, or you could contrast with navy blue or maroon leggings. I would keep it easy on accessories. It's also easy to layer with a pea coat during the colder months.
  • TWO: Literally animal-print leggings. I'm a sucker for funky pants and this is right up my alley. This print looks very Canadian to me and I'd be happy to wear it in the winter.
  • THREE: A simple, statement dress that I would layer with a leather jacket and silver jewels. You can easily style it for spring/summer next year as well.

This is my favourite item from the MINKPINK showroom in Toronto! I love coats, especially when they're embellished with fur; this is dyed with the pantone colour of the year (emerald), navy and grey... how fun! It looks cozy and chic.

Check out MINKPINK's video for the LA LA LAND campaign. I'd love to hear what you think!

I'm looking forward to seeing more MINKPINK in Toronto and their future collections!

Smashbox Cosmetics Blush Rush and Eyeshadow Trio (+ giveaway)

|
I discovered Smashbox Cosmetics two years ago when I was actively seeking a powder blush in the most shimmery pale pink. Remember when it was a big trend to have flushed cheeks? It was seen in magazines and on the runway. It slowly became one of my favourite looks. To me there is nothing that looks more pretty than bold brows, long lashes and pink cheeks! The best part is that this can be work appropriate and you can easily change it up by wearing a bright lipstick and go out at night.

As I randomly browsed and swatched a bunch of pink blushes at Sephora (one of the few stores I can spend hours in, another one is Chapters/Indigo), I came across Smashbox Blush Rush series and knew there was a winner!

Valued at $29 CAD, Smashbox blush in the shade FLUSH gives the most natural, shimmery glow. I'm not joking when I say I've re-purchased this product at least two other times since I first discovered it. I've also gifted it to friends and I'm considering picking one up for my mom as well! It's long-lasting and looks radiant throughout the day. Even when you're tired and not looking your best (hello, that's me everyday at 8 a.m.), the natural, luminous sheen hints otherwise. I haven't had the chance to try other shades yet but I might pick up Chiffon or Heartbreak next.

Once I was convinced that Smashbox products were highly pigmented and worked well for my skin, I decided to give one of the Photo Op Eyeshadow Trio palettes a try. It was actually recommended by a beauty consultant I always chat with at Shoppers Drug Mart near my work. She said this palette is great for traveling, blends like a dream and the shadows don't crease if you use a good primer. Check, check, check. While I'm addicted to my Urban Decay and Coastal Scents palettes, this is just so much more durable, especially when I go to work and take makeup with me to wear for events in the evenings.

The Photo Op Eyeshadow Trio photographed above is in the palette named AUTO EXPOSE, $36 CAD.

Outfit Details: Black Jumpsuit (c/o Boohoo), Belt (c/o e-closet), Handbag (Marc Jacobs), Pumps (Forever 21), Jewelry (H&M)

Boohoo is a UK-based online apparel and accessories store that started offering shipping in Canada earlier this summer. I had the chance to attend the launch party in June where we got to preview current upcoming collections. It took me a while to decide on what to order because I honestly wanted 50+ items, but finally narrowed my list down to 3 pieces including 2 dresses and this amazing jumpsuit.

Have you been checked out Bohoo's online shop yet? I'd love to see what pieces you really like.

FASHION Magazine Style Panel: Logo T-Shirt

|

(Photos by James)

Outfit Details: Logo Crop Top (Garage Clothing), Jeans + Necklace (Forever 21), Crossbody Bag (Rebecca Minkoff), Bracelets (Dynamite)

For a few years I avoided wearing logo or graphic tees. My go-to outfit usually consists of a dress or skirt, and if I wore pants or jeans it would be with a striped, print or button-up structured top. Recently I've been seeing a lot of graphic tees paired with a-line skirts, layered with a blazer or an abundance of accessories.

When FASHION Magazine asked the Style Panel how we would wear a logo t-shirt, I couldn't resist pairing this crop top with high-waisted flared jeans. I contrasted the outfit with bright coloured accessories. I won't lie, I wanted to create a look simply to match my new Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC bag. My top says "BEACH" on it; I'm missing California too much. ;)

Remember when I went to Digital Dreams Music Festival as one of the 12 bloggers for Smart Set? Here is a fun video of how it all went down. It was one of my favourite experiences as a blogger and I was so happy when I got chosen to attend.

Insta-Monday: Scaddabush, California, Rebecca Minkoff & More

Listed from top to bottom, left to right:
  1. Went to Scaddabush (Square One) with my girlfriends the night before leaving for California and had a delightful experience! They make fresh pasta, cheese and dessert daily.
  2. I took this photo in California while eating brunch - still can't believe it was my cousin's backyard.
  3. My cousin's engagement party was held in the backyard with a candlelight setting; it was stunning!
  4. Photo of me and my mom while waiting in line to the Universal Studios Hollywood tour in California.
  5. I finally caved and got the Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC bag in this rust orange colour. I'm so obsessed that I've purposely been wearing outfits to match my new bag. :)
  6. Tried Halo Halo for the first time at Bubbletease (new location in Mississauga), which is a Filipino dessert, and enjoyed it. I will have to find a more authentic place to have it again - I'm sure it will be a million times better!
  7. Snapped a quick photo with my niece this weekend. Hello, why is she growing up so fast?!
