Cottage Style at Viamede Resort

|
Last weekend I had the opportunity to escape the busy city and head to Viamede Resort; a beautiful cottage-style lodge by Stoney Lake just couple of hours away.

The first night was a bit of a blur since we checked in pretty late. It was already dark outside, but as soon as I got some rest I was up really early and excited to explore the resort. Despite the rain, I still managed to have a great time walking around and checking out all the fun amenities (including a farm!) and eating delicious food.

Since this weekend was all about comfort and relaxing, I didn't bother taking a lot of clothes and accessories. I mainly needed a jacket, a couple of different options for tops, dresses and some shoes.

Outfit Details: Dress + Jacket (Forever 21), Flats (H&M), Necklace (Shop for Jayu)

I accidentally forgot to pack my hair straightener and curler so my hair was naturally wavy all weekend. For some reason I've really been feeling the biker chick look, perhaps it's the jacket that inspires this trend. Either way it works well with this striped number, and the fitting of the dress still makes brings out the girl in me. This photo was taken at the Boathouse Pub; a restaurant located at the resort overlooking Stoney Lake. I love the royal blue walls contrasting with oak wood. If you ever eat here, I definitely recommend the Fish & Chips!

The rest of the day was filled with small walks, some TV watching/lounging, MORE food and a visit to the farm...

The farm at Viamede Resort is just a short walk from the main lobby, and probably one of my favourite things there. We got to see roosters, ducks, turkey and pigs! There may have been more animals but we decided to only take a quick peak since we were on an unsupervised tour.

I was sad to leave the next morning, especially since that was when the sun decided to come out. Regardless, we still got to enjoy it a bit in the morning before heading home.

Outfit Details: Top + Jacket (Forever 21), Flats (H&M), Necklaces (various), Leggings (Aritzia)

It's no surprise that Viamede Resort is considered to be the perfect wedding destination for a lot of couples; it's charming, has a lovely lakeside view and a beautiful setup. We even got to witness a wedding! The chapel was really cute and prompted a quick style photo session. Now, I would never ever really wear this outfit to a wedding or a church for that matter (leather is a no-no for me), but I really like how these turned out.

Here is another look at the chapel. Isn't it just so lovely, surrounded by all the greenery?

Hope you enjoyed my cottage-style recap of Viamede Resort! If you're curious about all the delicious food served on-site, check out this post here.

Outfit Details: Graphic T-shirt (c/o Skip N' Whistle), Jacket + Skirt (Forever 21) Boots (Steve Madden), Bag (Rebecca Minkoff), Bracelets (Dynamite)

I'm not sure if you already know this about me, but I'm a HUGE fan of dinosaurs. Ever since I was little I always imagined them to be my friends... it must have been due to a dream I once had but that's a story for another time.

As soon as I spotted this graphic tee on Skip N' Whistle's online shop, I knew I had to have it! To add my own feminine touch I decided to pair it with this skater a-line striped skirt. Can't leave the house without something bright and colourful, so I threw in my orange mini MAC bag and funky bracelets.

FASHION Magazine Style Panel: Statement Accessories

|

(Photos by James)

Outfit Details: Pants (c/o Massimo Dutti), Top + Flats (H&M), Bag (Rebecca Minkoff), Necklace (c/o Cocoa Jewelry)

Statement accessories was the topic of conversation this week for FASHION Magazine's Style Panel. Read the original article here.

Lately I've been loving the look of multiple necklaces to create a statement of its own. Here I've paired a bright, yellow necklace with a more delicate long gold chain. This contrasts well with the print of my pants, but also hides the fact that I'm wearing a simple navy blue t-shirt.

Mixed Media Blazer

(Photos by James)

Outfit Details: Blazer (c/o Smart Set), Top + Skirt + Flats (H&M), Necklace (Forever 21), Bag (Marc Jacobs)

What started as a random little trip to Square One ended up being blazer-shopping day. I picked up this gorgeous mixed media blazer, that is mostly wool with leather detailing on the pockets and collar. September is the best time to wear blazers because the weather is just right... although slightly unpredictable, but for the most part it's easy to wear a layered outfit that you can easily work with throughout the day. My favourite part about this blazer is the burgundy lining on the inside; it matches my skirt perfectly.

James also bought a new suit from Zara and hemmed it to perfection. Doesn't he just look so handsome? :)

Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday!

The A-Line Dress

Outfit Details: Dress + Necklaces (Forever 21), Leggings (TNA Aritzia), Flats (H&M), Bag (Marc Jacobs)

Printed a-line dresses are trending for fall/winter and I couldn't be happier. A classic a-line shaped dress or skirt is flattering on almost anyone, as long as you're comfortable with the fit and fabric, it falls nicely on the waist and hip area.

Since this season is all about layering I thought I'd start with this burgundy and navy printed a-line dress paired with a short black jacket. I also put together three dainty necklaces to make a statement of its own. Typically I would wear black or silver pumps with this outfit but my feet are badly bruised, so I have to stay away from heels for a few weeks. :(

Rowenta Beauty Hair Touch-Ups at Nikki Beach During TIFF

|
It's true Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is currently happening, but this city is buzzing non-stop about Toronto International Film Festival! People get occupied with movies, celebrity spotting, attending gifting lounges, media previews and more.

With TIFF comes the annual Nikki Beach event in Toronto, and this year it was held at The Spoke Club from September 5-8, 2013. It was open day and night and to get access, you had to RSVP beforehand. I had the pleasure of attending on behalf of Rowenta Beauty, as they were one of the partners present each day providing consumers and media complimentary hair touch-ups to ensure everyone had red carpet-worthy hair!

The Rowenta Beauty booth was almost identical to the one at World Mastercard Fashion Week last spring, and it was fun hanging out with the stylists and 1 Milk 2 Sugars (Toronto team) again. Unfortunately I was only able to attend the first evening, but still managed to take some photos of the setup and got a glamorous hairdo as well!

We forgot to take a before photo, but my hair was pin-straight when I walked into the Rowenta Beauty booth. Here is a photo of Nicole working on my hair.

This was the final look! I absolutely love how fancy it was from the back, and she worked well with my highlights as well. Believe it or not, this only took about 10 minutes to complete.

Nicole used the Rowenta Beauty Versa Style tool to create this look. It was the first time that I'd ever had that tool used on my hair, and the curls lasted all throughout the night. In the past I shared a tutorial and review of the Curl Active, but I think this one is next on my list! It would be great for traveling since you can do various things using just one tool but I also like the look of it.

Here is a close-up I took. Thanks for the glamorous hairdo, Rowenta Beauty!

Insta-Monday: ARTDECO Cosmetics, The Body Shop Gift of Joy, Globe Style Advisor & More

|

From top to bottom, left to right:
  1. ARTDECO Cosmetics sent me a few makeup products from the fall 2013 collection to try. I'll be working on a tutorial soon.
  2. Went to "Gift of Joy", an amazing event hosted by The Body Shop to showcase the holiday collection, but it was all about the gift of giving... I loved it!
  3. Got to hang out with Elaine (Toronto Beauty Reviews) and Victoria (Haute) at The Body Shop event, so great seeing you ladies. xo
  4. I can't stop raving about John Frieda's 3-Day Straight spray, which definitely helped keep my hair from getting frizzy and wavy due to humid weather all summer.
  5. Got my advance copy of this season's Globe Style Advisor last week and really enjoyed the Dressed to Kill editorial. They even sent me a sweet gift! (Who told them I love Marc Jacobs?!)
  6. Celebrated my best friend Kiran's birthday this past weekend... so good to just hang out, play games and eat homemade pasta.
Hope you enjoy my Insta-Mondays! Follow me on Instagram and Twitter for more frequent updates.

Tribal Jumpsuit

(Photos by Maria)

Outfit Details: Jumpsuit + Jewelry (Forever 21), Denim Jacket (c/o Smart Set), Flats (Ardene), Handbag (thrifted)

Three style posts in a week! Truth be told these photos were sitting on my desktop all summer long, and since autumn is pretty much here I thought this would be a good time to publish them.

I originally got this jumpsuit a little more than two years ago and it was my favourite item to wear that summer. I was looking through my closet and noticed that I still had it, but couldn't remember the last time I wore it. Isn't it a great feeling when you find an old piece of clothing or jewelry and realize you STILL love it and just can't get rid of it? That is exactly how I feel about this one.

What is one item in your closet that you just can't throw away? Tell me in the comments or tweet me!

Embroidery on White

(Photos by James)

Outfit Details: Tunic (c/o Silk Threads), Pants (H&M), Bag (c/o Massimo Dutti), Pumps (SPRING Shoes), Sunglasses (Chanel)

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I'm ALL about comfort. I would definitely describe my "fashion sense" to be more casual, but still with a strong feminine quality. That is why I love to wear flirty tunics and often wear them with jeans, pants or leggings.

A while back Silk Threads Designs (based in Dallas, Texas) reached out to me about their tunics and blouses collection and asked me if I liked any of their styles. I really like the colours and prints they select because you can't normally find anything like it here. Tunics from Silk Threads are unique in the way they are styled and worn. They gave me this white tunic (photographed above) which has gorgeous white and gold embroidery. To bring more focus to the detailing I made sure to keep kind of a neutral palette and easy on accessories.

Silk Threads also had me as a featured me on their blog, check out the fun Q&A here!

FASHION Magazine Style Panel: Ideal Outfit for Fall 2013

|

(Photos by James)

Outfit Details: Top + Skirt (Forever 21), Boots (c/o ECCO Shoes), Necklace (c/o e-closet)

One trend that I'm absolutely loving this year but haven't experimented with enough is a full black and white outfit. FASHION Magazine asked its Style Panel this week to put together a look that is suitable for Toronto events this season, and since stripes are usually my go-to print, I couldn't help it when I saw this a-line skirt! Click here to read the panel tips.

I also decided to add a bit of deep burgundy with the ECCO boots. I'm anxiously waiting for it to get cooler so I can wear them more often, but they really are super stylish and comfortable.
