Our Mayoun

Monday, November 10, 2014

I was a bit hesitant on showing photos of all our wedding-related events throughout the last couple of months, but so many of you requested to see more than just a glimpse on social media, so I thought I'd share some snaps of the more important events like the bridal shower and now, our mayoun.

If you're unfamiliar with what a mayoun is, it's an evening of singing, dancing, food, and basically showering the bride and groom to be with sweet treats and uptan (a herbal paste that is supposed to make your skin glow before the wedding). Usually the bride and groom do it separately with their own families but because this comes out of my culture, we decided to do ours together and have our family and friends gathered in one place together.

In the photos you'll see that we typically decorate our home (or venue where the mayoun is held) with colours that coordinate with the bride-to-be's dress. Our theme was green and yellow with subtle hints of gold. Huge thanks to my mom, her friends and my girlfriends for pulling this together. I didn't have anything to do with the decor, they handled it all!

As you scroll through the photos you'll see that my mom and cousins dress me up with flower garlands, earrings and as more of our friends feed us sweets and uptan, it begins to get messier and messier, haha! Eventually James and I had uptan dripping from our faces... we had to run to the bathroom to get cleaned up.

Hope you enjoyed the photos! I'm definitely missing the wedding days now that it's all over and things have started to slow down, but we'll be going on our honeymoon at the end of this month, so I'm super excited for that.
