One of the most frequent questions I get asked is if my makeup or skincare routine changes throughout the seasons... and the answer is YES. Weather can have such a huge impact on how your skin reacts in the heat or cold, and it can also inspire the type of looks you want to go with.
A big trend that I've been following but have been scared to try are beauty oils. For the longest time I avoided oils, mainly because I thought they were too messy and didn't know how to apply them properly. Just a few years ago I welcomed hair oils into my life, and have never looked back.
Recently I've been hearing great things about cleansing and moisturizing oils, specifically Lipidol (from the makers of Bio-Oil). In order to keep my skin hydrated during the colder months, I've decided to test them out and walk you through some benefits of their products.
Lipidol Cleansing Face Oil: Take a little bit of the product, rub together and gently apply it directly onto your dry skin and watch it remove all traces of dirt and makeup. I love that it cleanses without taking away natural oils, unlike other cleansers where sometimes you may feel as though a whole layer of skin has been taken off. Keep adding water as you cleanse and massage until it becomes creamy enough to wash off completely. It has a natural scent, very suitable for those with sensitive skin.
I have to admit that I was weirded out by the idea of adding more oil to my face, but the results were so pleasant and my face felt as soft as a baby!
Lipidol Cleansing Body Oil: Similar concept to the cleansing face oil, but you can use this product all over your body in the shower. Out of all products, I was most excited about this one because I take really hot showers and often feel the dryness all night and day. It lathers on smoothly and I just rub it all over and let it wash off as I continue to shower. It smells absolutely INCREDIBLE, reminds me of key lime pie.
I'm more generous with this product because even if I make a big mess, it cleans easily.
Lipidol After Shower Oil: This is great, especially after a hot shower or long bath, because it helps to keep or bring back moisture that you may have lost. I'm really looking forward to pairing this with the cleansing body oil in the winter when my skin gets SUPER flaky and dry. You can apply this as soon as you come out of the shower; the moisturized feeling lasts for a long time! It's very lightly scented.
Lipidol Overnight Face Oil: The idea is to apply a thin layer of this oil on your face right before you go to bed. It's meant to increase hydration as the body heals itself overnight. You may also notice that you'll have a fresher, silky-smooth face the next day thanks to the ingredients in the oil.
I've been applying this an hour or two before bed while we watch TV or a movie. That way it begins to seep into my skin and the excess doesn't go on my pillow or ruin my sheets.
The Lipidol collection also has an After Shave Oil that I'm getting my husband (James) to test out when he shaves his face next! Let me know if you'd like an update on that and we'd be happy to share.
I was honestly scared to try beauty oils, however, I was very pleased with how gentle each Lipidol product was but effective as well. This collection will come super handy in the winter for me, but it's good that I'm prepping my skin for dry weather now.
Available at Walmart for $8.97 CAD each, Lipidol's purpose is to bring oil into daily skincare so the skin's natural oil layer is constantly supplemented, hydrated and treated. Check it out and let me know what you think!
