The holidays can be both stressful + exciting. Projects pile up around this time, you're knee-deep in planning mode for the next year AND you can't forget to buy presents for all your nieces and nephews.
Instead of rushing like a crazy lady closer to Christmas, I ease into the festive spirit by doing some of the things I absolutely love about the season of giving! Here are a few ways I begin getting ready for the holidays, all while smelling absolutely fabulous thanks to Katy Perry Mad Love. Continue reading to find helpful tips and enter for a chance to WIN this delightful fragrance!
Organize your wardrobe
There is nothing more frustrating than spending hours looking for your favourite LBD or earrings. For any big occasion or seasonal change, I reorganize my closet and bring items that I'll likely wear more often to the front. This way I can easily see them and get inspired!
Similarly with accessories, you know you'll probably need glamorous statement pieces for holiday parties. Set up a pretty display on your makeup table or hang these items somewhere that is accessible; it will make getting ready so much quicker.
Indulge in the joy of baking
Pick up a new book or magazine that features holiday baking + meals and try out new recipes. This is a great way to take your mind off work or projects that may be stressing you out! Remember, once you bake these delicious goods, you can eat them too. ;)
Create goodie boxes or loot bags for surprise visits
My husband and I love to entertain... even when it's least expected! My parents will often call me after work and tell me they're on their way over; we've even had friends outside our condo telling us to open the door so they can come and say hi! Rather than panicking, I like to prepare in advance for these times of situations, especially during this time of the year.
Take advantage of that new recipe book or magazine you picked up and bake Christmas cookies in bulk. Tip: you can freeze them if you like! Create little care packages that you can use to entertain if guests arrive unexpectedly, or hand them out as they leave. This ties well with the gesture of giving during the holidays... plus, if your place is messy, they won't remember because they'll be too busy eating treats!
Decorate and keep decorating throughout the holidays
This is literally my favourite part about the holidays besides dressing up, baking, entertaining, exchanging gifts... actually, I love it all! However, I don't think decorating your place has to be done all at once. Take your time with it and it won't feel so overwhelming.
The first thing we do is evaluate what we have already and the theme we want to go with for the season. We've always had a fake tree, but this is the first year EVER that James and I decided to get a real Christmas tree. It makes me SO happy. We began decorating this past weekend, but we're not nearly done. Over the next few weeks, we'll visit some of our staple decor shops and pick out some more knick-knacks for our bedroom and the walls.
Keep calm and smell great
Don't let the stress of the holidays get you down! Take it all in little by little and enjoy the time with your loved ones. Have your go-to makeup looks and outfits sorted, pick out a fragrance for the season that you LOVE and you are ready for the parties!
My go-to scent this holiday is definitely Katy Perry's latest fragrance, Mad Love. I briefly talked about it on Twitter; it has fruity and floral notes, but it's also a bit musky. It settles into the skin so nicely after wearing it for a while and the flirty scent lasts until I shower the next day! I also like to spray it on my hair. Do you do that or is it just me?!
